Most companies enter the Asian sourcing business remotely — visiting factories twice a year, working through intermediaries. We built something different: a team that lives here, negotiates in Mandarin, and has spent three decades earning the kind of supplier access that cannot be replicated from a distance.
Where Sovern House
comes from
Sovern House was founded by a Canadian with over 30 years of full-time experience living and working in Asia. Not visiting — living. The relationships, the language fluency, and the operational know-how were built over decades on the ground, not assembled from a directory.
It started in garments and fabrics — categories where factory access, sampling discipline, and material knowledge separate good agents from bad ones. Over time it expanded into flooring, hardware, travel accessories, bathroom products, and specialty goods. The categories changed; the discipline didn't. Every engagement has been built on the same foundation: direct factory access, quality control at source, and total transparency on pricing.
The Mandarin fluency is material, not incidental. Factories say different things in Chinese than they say through an interpreter. What gets negotiated, what gets caught in QC, and what gets resolved when something goes wrong — all of it is different when the conversation happens in the right language.
Sovern House is the formalisation of that thirty-year network. A buying house built to give western importers the kind of Asia presence that would otherwise require their own office, their own team, and years they don't have.

Factories, freight, documentation, compliance — the complexity of sourcing from Asia is real. Our job is to absorb it so you don't have to manage it.

A vendor delivers what was ordered. A team tells you when something looks wrong, suggests a better factory, and pushes back when a quote is too high. That's what we do.
Where we operate.
We source from China, Vietnam, Thailand, and Taiwan — and sell into North America, Europe, and Latin America. The 30+ year supplier network and native Mandarin capability give us access to factories that most western buyers cannot reach directly.
We also handle a reverse trade flow — logs from Europe to Chinese manufacturers — which reflects a broader capability: any origin, any destination, where we can manage compliance and documentation on both ends.
