WPC Composite Decking

WPC (wood-plastic composite) decking combines wood fibre and polymer into a low-maintenance alternative to timber. Sovern House supplies capped, co-extruded WPC decking to the trade worldwide: colour-stable, stain- and scratch-resistant, with slip and weathering data on request.

What is WPC decking?

Wood-plastic composite decking is made from wood fibre bound in a polymer matrix. It gives the look of timber without the annual sanding, staining, and rot, which is why it dominates landscape, hospitality, and commercial exteriors. The single most important variable is whether the board is capped.

Uncapped composite exposes the core to moisture and UV, which leads to fading, staining, and mould over time. Capped, co-extruded boards wrap the core in a durable polymer shell that resists stains, scratches, and colour change, and carry the longer warranties. For any exterior that matters, capped composite is the specification to write.

Cap coverage matters too: four-sided capping is best for ground-contact and wet zones, and grooved, high-grip surfaces are made for poolside and other slip-critical areas. Boards are typically installed on a joist or pedestal system with hidden clips for a fastener-free surface.

Where a natural material is required, thermally-modified solid wood decking is an alternative: real timber with improved dimensional stability and rot resistance, and a different look and maintenance profile. We supply both and will sample them side by side.

WPC decking: common questions

What is the difference between WPC and capped composite decking?

WPC describes the material (wood fibre plus polymer). Capping describes whether that core is wrapped in a protective polymer shell. Capped WPC resists fading, staining, and scratching far better than uncapped, and carries the longer warranties, so for exterior projects we specify capped.

Is WPC decking slippery when wet?

Grooved, high-grip boards are made for poolside and wet zones. We provide slip-resistance data and recommend the grooved surface for slip-critical areas.

How much maintenance does composite decking need?

Far less than timber. There is no annual sanding, staining, or sealing; routine cleaning keeps a capped board looking as specified. It will not rot or splinter like natural wood.

WPC or thermally-modified wood decking?

Capped WPC is the lowest-maintenance, most colour-stable option. Thermally-modified solid wood is real timber with improved stability, for projects that require a natural material. We sample both side by side.

Can I request samples and a bulk quote?

Yes. We ship sample boards and quote MOQ, lead time, and FOB/CIF per project through the RFQ form.
