Every decking complaint arrives two summers late

Every decking complaint is the same complaint, arriving two summers late. It moved, it faded, or it got too hot to stand on.

Those are three different failures with three different causes, and you choose which you are exposed to when you choose the board.

WPC composite. Dimensionally stable, no annual oiling, no splinters. Co extruded caps carry the colour through a wear surface rather than sitting on top of it, which is what separates a deck that fades evenly from one that goes patchy.

Solid wood. Still unmatched underfoot and still the one that needs maintaining. Specify it where somebody will actually look after it.

The questions worth asking a supplier before you buy either:

  • What is the surface temperature in direct sun, because dark composite can become unusable
  • What is the expansion gap at the fixing, because most movement complaints are installation
  • Is the colour capped or through coloured
  • What happens at the board end, because that is where water gets in

We will answer all four in writing before you order. WPC composite, solid wood, and outdoor furniture from the same programme.
